Quincy & Torch Lake Archbar Trucks
Four pairs of Quincy & Torch Lake archbar trucks were acquired for use under various projects and will be restored as needed. The cars that these trucks came from were scrapped in 1973, but thankfully the trucks were salvaged. Archbar trucks are one of the harder-to-find assemblies for restoration projects, so it is great to have a small collection of them. The trucks are from the following cars:
1.) Straight-Braced Rock Car #107
Built in 1901 by Wells, French & Co. for Hancock & Calumet RR
2.) Straight-Braced Rock Car #124
Built in 1901 by Wells, French & Co. for Hancock & Calumet RR
3.) Z-Braced Rock Car #14
Built in 1889 by Wells, French & Co. for Quincy & Torch Lake RR
4.) Straight-Braced Rock Car #57
Built in 1900 by American Car & Foundry for Quincy & Torch Lake RR
These trucks all have 24" diameter wheels, and vary in wheelbase from 3'-3" to 3'-10". The 3'-10" trucks have inside-hung brakes, whereas the 3'-3" trucks have outside-hung brakes. They all have wood truss-braced bolsters, though only the 3'-3" trucks have wood spring planks.
